For the 1985 season, the Memphis Showboats were aligned with the six other teams east of the Mississippi River in the USFL's Eastern Conference.
Each Eastern Conference team played two games against each of the other teams in the conference that season, representing two-thirds of the 18-game regular season schedule.
The Showboats went 7-5-0 in conference play, earning their playoff berth on the strength of a 4-2-0 record against Western Conference teams.
