Logan Young, Jr. was initially the sole shareholder of Memphis Pro Football, Inc., which was awarded the Showboats franchise.

Young inherited his fortune from his father, taking over the family business, Mid-South Beverages.  He also was involved in another family enterprise, Osceola Foods, a private-label margarine manufacturer.  Young sold Mid-South in 1982.

Charles J. Thornton was the Vice President of Memphis Pro Football, having previously been the Associate Athletic Director at Texas A&M.  As the team's GM, Thornton was paid a base salary of $80,000 (more than most of his players).

Awbrey G. Norris was the Showboats Secretary and Treasurer.

Potential investors in the Showboats were advised that the possibility existed that the team would never see a profit, and that there might not be a market for their ownership interests - in other words, you might lose every dime you invest, and you may not be able to bail out if you decide to do so down the road.
