The 1984 USFL Draft was the largest in the league's history in terms of the number of players selected (405).

The 1983 USFL Draft consisted of more rounds - 24 as opposed to 19.

Thanks to General Manager Jim Spavital's wheeling and dealing however, the defending USFL champions selected a total of 24 players over the course of the 19 rounds.

For 1984 the Panthers were aligned into the Central Division together with the Chicago Blitz, Houston Gamblers, Oklahoma Outlaws and San Antonio Gunslingers.

As the division consisted of three expansion teams and the Chicago Blitz, who were essentially the transplanted Arizona Wranglers, the Panthers were picked to run away with the division title.

Instead, it would be the expansion Houston Gamblers that took home the 1984 Central Division title, going 13-5-0 compared to the Panthers 10-8-0 record.
