OUTLAWS
TRIVIA |
| -- |
| Robert
"Woody" Widenhofer was introduced as
the head coach of the Oklahoma Outlaws at the
1984 USFL Draft. |
| -- |
| Widenhofer,
who had been an assistant under Chuck Noll with
the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers, was seen as a
credible choice for the team. |
| -- |
| After
a 6-12-0 season and the team's merger with the
Arizona Wranglers however, Widenhofer was
jettisoned in favor of a coach that added local
marketability - Frank Kush. |
| -- |
| Kush
had been the head coach at Arizona State
University years before, but was dismissed for
physically assaulting his players. |
| -- |
| Kush
didn't dramatically improve the franchise's
fortunes, finishing 8-10-0 in 1985. The
field at Sun Devil Stadium however today bears
his name. |
