Announced on April 24, 1983 and folding on October 25, 1984, the Maulers experienced the shortest life span of any active USFL franchise, exactly 550 days.
The team's folding came exactly one week after the USFL's owners elected to move their season to a fall schedule beginning in 1986.
In addition to his role as President of the Maulers, Paul Martha was active in the day to day management of DeBartolo's other team, the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Maulers could be heard locally on flagship station WAMO-FM in Pittsburgh, as well as on WBVP-AM in Beaver Falls, PA, WHJB-AM in Greensburg, WDAD-AM in Indiana, PA, WWZE-FM in Johnstown, PA, WMMN-AM in Fairmont, WV, and WWBW-AM in Youngstown, Ohio.
