Before taking on the head coaching duties of the Maulers, Joe Pendry had served as Jim Mora's offensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Stars.

Pendry's tenure in Pittsburgh lasted all of 10 games.  Ellis Rainsberger coached the club for its final 8 games after Pendry was fired.

The Maulers allegedly earned the #1 draft choice in 1984 by lottery, but whether or not that's the case is a matter only one man knew for certain.

Peter Hadhazy, the USFL's Director of Operations, conducted the "lottery" via conference call, so there were no eyewitnesses.

Some believe that Hadhazy simply gave the Maulers the first pick because they had agreed to draft Rozier - and because Maulers owner Ed DeBartolo had the resources to sign him.
