GENERALS
TRIVIA |
| -- |
| Herschel
Walker carried the ball 438 times for a pro
football record 2,411 yards in 1985, scoring 21
touchdowns along the way. |
| -- |
| The
'85 Generals as a whole were a grind-em out,
ground game oriented club offensively, scoring a
whopping 35 touchdowns on the ground while
throwing for only 15. |
| -- |
| QB
Doug Flutie rushed for 465 yards in his rookie
season, passing for 2,109. |
| -- |
| Walker
also led the Generals in receptions, with only
37! |
| -- |
| K-P
Roger Ruzek began his pro career with the
Generals, then moved on to the NFL when the
league disbanded. In 7 NFL seasons with
the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles,
Ruzek appeared in 93 games and scoring 566
points in all. |
| -- |
| Maurice
Carthon would also move on to the NFL after the
USFL ceased operations, but he would continue to
call the Meadowlands home, signing with the New
York Giants. |
| -- |
| Carthon
was one of the NFL's premier fullbacks,
providing blocking for the likes of Ottis
Anderson. Carthon would earn a pair of
Super Bowl rings with the Giants before retiring
after the 1992 season as a member of the
Indianapolis Colts. |
| -- |
| Had
the Generals played in the fall of 1986, the
team's offense likely would have taken a much
more balanced appearance, thanks to the addition
of QB Jim Kelly via a merger with the Houston
Gamblers. |
