EXPRESS TRIVIA

--
The 1985 season was an unmitigated disaster for the Los Angeles Express, both on the field and off.
--
During the off-season owner J. William Oldenburg hit the skids financially, relinquishing his franchise to the league.  Rather than fold the team and risk losing its network TV deal with ABC, the league's owners opted to keep the Express rolling as a league-operated franchise.
--
The league kept the team alive, but essentially stripped it of the ability to be competitive, refusing to replace injured players during the season, and telling the coaching staff that their contracts wouldn't be honored beyond the 1985 season.
--
Injuries became so prevalent for the '85 Express that QB Steve Young played a game at running back, letting back-up Frank Seurer get a start.
--
USFL Commissioner Harry Usher compounded the Express' problems by having the team play its final home game at tiny Pierce College, confirming the team's status as a laughingstock even within USFL circles.
--
The Express finished their final season with a 3-15-0 record, a seven game drop from their Pacific Division title-winning 1984 season.
