EXPRESS TRIVIA

--
When the Express would take on the Washington Federals, sportscasters were fond of referring to the contest as the "Federal Express Bowl."
--
Steve Young was signed to what was at the time the most lucrative contract in pro football history.
--
Young however regretted the deal, wishing he'd opted to play in the NFL instead.  Over the course of his two years with the Express he repeatedly tried to get out of his contract.
--
Young's contract was reported to be worth $40 million, but the bulk of the money would be in the form of an annuity that would make payments over decades.
--
Young eventually cashed out the annuity, receiving a one-time payment of $ 1.5 million.
--
On the field, the education that Young received as a member of the Express (and later the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers) served him well.
--
As the back-up quarterback to Hall of Famer Joe Montana in San Francisco, Young saw little action but did help the team win back-to-back Super Bowls after the 1988 and 1989 seasons.
--
Young would become the 49ers starter after Montana went to the Kansas City Chiefs, and would win his own Super Bowl after the 1994 season.  He has since been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
