EXPRESS
TRIVIA |
| -- |
| Among
the more colorful nicknames of USFL players was
that of Express nose guard Eddie "Meat
Cleaver" Weaver. |
| -- |
| For
1983 and 1984, the Express were aligned in the
USFL's Pacific Division, along with the Arizona
Wranglers, Denver Gold and Oakland Invaders. |
| -- |
| When
the number of teams in the league fell to 14 for
1985, the Express were aligned with the other
six teams west of the Mississippi River into the
league's Western Conference. |
| -- |
| Construction
on the Los Angeles Coliseum was completed on May
1, 1923. The stadium had a capacity of
92,516 seats during the Express' stay. |
| -- |
| Only
approximately 25,000 of those seats were between
the goal lines, however, making the stadium
ill-suited for pro football. |
| -- |
| Nevertheless,
the Coliseum would host three pro football
tenants other than the Express. |
| -- |
| The
Los Angeles Rams called the Coliseum home until
1980, when the team relocated to Anaheim
Stadium. |
| -- |
| The
Oakland Raiders moved to Los Angeles in 1982,
calling the Coliseum home until the team moved
back for the 1995 NFL season. |
| -- |
| The
Los Angeles Xtreme of the XFL would also call
the Coliseum home in its only season, in 2001. |
