An homage to the USFL team, today there is a local lacrosse team in the Tampa area known as the Tampa Bay Bandits.
In December 1982, the Bandits signed a 15-year lease with the Tampa Sports Authority for use of Tampa Stadium.
The Bandits played their final game there on June 25, 1985.
The game was almost played at another site as the Bandits were late with rent payments.
The USFL league office finally stepped in and paid the bill so the Bandits could play their final game at home.
On January 18, 1999, demolition of Tampa Stadium began.  It was completed on April 11.
