Among the Bandits territorial selections in 1983 was Nate Newton of Florida A&M, who after the USFL went on to play with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, earning three Super Bowl rings.
TE's Zeke Mowatt and Mike Mularkey were also selected by the Bandits in the territorial draft, but would sign with NFL clubs.
The USFL Territorial Draft was a misnomer of sorts.  Rather than gather together as with a college draft, each team would send a list of players to the Commissioner's office, "protecting" them from the college draft and claiming their rights.
The Commissioner's office in turn would send out these lists to all teams, prohibiting them from being picked in the regular college draft.
